SECOND CHANCE: A FOOTBALL STORY - changing publishers soon
Tony Belmont was an outstanding high school football player, but a knee injury caused him to sit out his senior year and miss playing in the state championship game. Presently, he’s a twenty-four year old college graduate ignoring his girlfriend’s constant nagging to find a better job. She wants to get married and have children. He prefers to work at the city Parks and Rec Department, and spends his spare time playing in local pickup games.
When Tony attends his former high school’s final regular season football game, a chance halftime encounter with his ex-coach results in an unusual invitation. To save his job and the jobs of his coaching staff, the coach invites Tony to fill in for an injured player. Believing it’s a dream-come-true scenario, Tony accepts and helps the team win. The coach believes Tony could be the difference in the playoffs, and asks him to play for the duration of the season. Tony’s girlfriend doesn’t agree with his decision to play, and his best friend is not impressed. They call it cheating, and as Tony’s high school team keeps winning, they never let him forget how they feel. During a work-time incident, Tony re-injures his knee and resorts to a powerful pain medication to enable him to play in the championship game. But is Tony really willing to sacrifice his friends, his health, and his integrity for a second chance to play in a high school football game? |
